Walks in Gran Canaria

There are many walks of varying lengths and difficulty on Gran Canaria. Some are along the ancient "caminos reales" (royal roads), others along footpaths that have been in use for centuries. And some are little more than goat tracks! If you like walking, we're sure you will enjoy the scenery and the tranquility of rural Gran Canaria.

The following descriptions of walks have been sent in by those intrepid walkers who have stayed in our apartments. We cannot vouch for the accuracy of the descriptions or whether the routes are along rights of way. We can accept no liability for any accidents or misadventures befalling anyone who follows them.

Walk 1. Montana Inagua (c. 2 hours)

Park at the Mirador/café at the Tasartico turn-off between Mogan and San Nicolas on the GC-500.

Facing the mountain, with your back to the Tasartico road, (you'd turn right for Mogan, left for San Nicolas) cross the road heading slightly to the right and you'll see the bus stop. The track up the hill starts here.

Walk up the track and follow the black irrigation pipe, which will take you to a well-defined track around the cliff face in the direction of San Nicolas, which leads to a cross in memory of an old Canarian walker beneath the only large pine-tree on the cliff-face.

A little way after this you can either turn back and retrace your steps back to the Mirador, or continue along the track up a steep scramble to the clifftop, and head for Mogan. This option is longer and much more strenuous!
